I saw this question on a forum while ago and it got the brain juices flowing, why do I celebrate the seasons?
I admire change, it is something I have not always invited into my life but now I embrace it as it comes. In celebrating change I feel more alive then ever before. At the peril of sounding horribly cliche, I will say: Life is full of moments, ones that make you laugh, ones that make you cry and ones that simply are. I would rather experience all those moments then know that I had just let them slip by. I want to appreciate what they have to teach me and how they can help me grow.
Youth is a time where everything is new and amazing. You want to touch, see, smell, hear and feel everything. Youth is a time of tremendous change; it is the evolution of a child, it is Spring.
Spring is Imbolg, Oestara and Bealtainne.
Summer reminds me of the maiden, it is the wild child of the seasons. It encompasses Bealtainne, Litha and Lughnasadh. Time to find our path, enjoy life, to experience everything. We are defining who we are and our awareness is in overdrive.
Pregnancy and parenthood brings thoughts of Autumn to my mind. Our labors and learnings are coming to fruit. We prepare to pass on our knowledge to these seeds. A major transition is coming to the land, death is coming. This transition evokes feels to nurture the seed within as well. Autumn is Lughnasadh, Mabon and Samhain.
Aging and Winter have always fit together for me. Maybe it is the cold that can even make young bones ache or the lack of green and light. This is a time to rest and reflect on the past year and spend time with those near and dear to you. The children of Spring are growing within us, their hope keeps us from becoming too serious on those long dark nights. Samhain, Yule and Imbolg, we come full circle. Winter is a time of reflection on the past and planning for the future.
Hence, I celebrate the seasons, in ever moment - though with special gatherings or ritual on the Sabbats. They are a time to come together and celebrate unity and my purpose in life - to love.
