In some belief systems, it is believed that the human body has seven main energy centers, called chakras. They are located along the spine from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. This article summarizes what each chakra and its energies.

1st / Root / Muladhara
The first chakra is the foundation of emotional and mental health. It is the connection to family and supports the formation of identity. It is the center of physical energy, grounding, self-preservation.

Muladhara tells us: "We are all connected, every person, everyone plant, every stone and star. Every choice you make and every belief you hold exerts influence upon the whole of life."

  • Physical Associations: reproductive glands, base of spine, legs, bones, feet, rectum, immune system.
  • Possible Out of Balance Physical Problems: auto-immune disease, arthritis, cancer, AIDS, fatigue, kidney problems, chronic lower back pain, rectal disorders, depression, MPD, obssessive-compulsive disorder, addictions, sciatica, varicose veins.

2nd / Sacral / Svadhishthana
The second chakra is your center of emotions, personal power, creativity, sexuality, and finances. Issues of physical survival, control, and one-on-one relationships are at the core of this energy center. Here lies your intentions.
Svadhishthana tells us: "Every relationship you develop, from casual to intimate, helps you become more conscious. No union is without spiritual value."

  • When In Balance: Creativity, emotions, family, honor in relationships, memory assimilation, procreation, sensuality
  • When Out of Balance: anxiety, emptiness, envy, abandonment, jealousy, lies, loss of identity
  • Physical Associations: Genito-urinary tract, sexual organs, large intestine, lower vertebrae, pelvis, appendix, bladder, hips.
  • Possible Out of Balance Physical Problems: arthritis, chronic lower back pain, gall & kidney stones, menopause severity, pelvic disease, prostate illnesses/cancers, reproductive illnesses/cancers, sexual impotency, urinary problems

3rd / Solar Plexus / Manipura
The third chakra furthers the development of self-esteem and personality, separate from your root chakras. This is where you learn to develop and maintain a personal code of honor. This chakras is all about personal power, ambition and astral force.
Manipura tells us: "Be mature and honorable in the relationship you have with yourself and accept responsibility for the person you have become."

4th / Heart / Anahataheart
This is the powerhouse of the human energy system. From it's central position, the fourth chakra mediates between the body and spirit, and determines their health, strength, and balance. It governs over lasting love, compassion and group consciousness.
Anahataheart tells us: "Love is the central power point and true motivator of your body, mind and spirit."

  • Physical Associations: circulatory system, thymus gland, center of the chest, lungs, shoulders, arms and hands, diaphragm

5th / Throat / Vishuddaneck
The fifth chakra is the center of your struggle with choice and the ability to release your will to Divine guidance. Its essence is faith – faith in our fears or faith in the Divine. This chakra speaks of communication, and expression of thoughts.
Vishuddaneck tells us: "Your every choice has biological, environmental, social, personal and global consequence. Doing what is right may not be easy but it gives you the richest power."

6th / Third Eye / Ajnapoint
Known as the “third eye”, the sixth chakra is the energy center of intuition, intellect and reasoning. It gives us the power to enhance our mental abilities and psychological skill at evaluating our beliefs and attitudes.
Ajnapoint tells us: "Continually search for the difference between truth and illusion, the two
forces are present at every moment. Intuition will tell you which to trust."

7th / Crown / Sahasrara
The seventh chakra is our connection to our spiritual nature and our capacity to allow spirituality to become an integral part of our physical lives. It is a path to enlightenment, dynamic thought and oneness with all things.
Sahasrara tells us: "All physical, psychological and emotional illusions or fears, need to be removed from your life. Let go of the past, do not anticipate the future and live in the presence of the Divine."

  • Sound: Silence
  • Plane: Truth
